Raid System Overview

Raids in Anime Overload are fundamentally different from Story Mode. Instead of defending against waves of smaller enemies, you face a single powerful boss with devastating abilities. These bosses use AoE (area-of-effect) skills that can stun, put to sleep, or otherwise disable your entire team if you are not prepared.

What makes Anime Overload raids unique compared to other tower defense games is the player interaction component. This is not a game where you set up your heroes and watch. You need to actively participate by dodging boss attacks using the crouch mechanic. If you treat raids like an idle game, you will fail.

Raids reward Raid Coins on completion, which can be spent in the Raid Shop for valuable items including Crystal Shards, Clover items, and more. Use those Crystal Shards for summoning new heroes. The difficulty scales with the raid tier, and higher tiers offer more Raid Coins per clear. Make sure to equip the right traits on your raid team for maximum performance.

The Crouch Mechanic — Core Survival Skill

This is the single most important mechanic in raids. If you learn nothing else from this guide, learn this.

When a raid boss prepares an AoE attack, you will see a visual warning on your screen — typically a glowing area or charging animation. At this moment, you need to press the crouch key to duck under the attack. If you successfully crouch in time, the AoE passes over you harmlessly and your heroes continue fighting uninterrupted.

If you fail to crouch, the boss's AoE will hit you and your heroes. The effects vary by boss — some stun your heroes for several seconds, others put them to sleep, and some deal massive damage. During this stun/sleep window, your heroes stop attacking, stop using abilities, and the boss continues dealing damage. Against higher-tier bosses, a single missed crouch can be the difference between a clear and a wipe.

The timing window is generous for normal raids but tightens significantly in harder content. Practice the crouch timing on lower-tier raids before attempting the hardest bosses. For more details on boss-specific mechanics, see our Boss Mechanics Guide.

Raid Shop Items & Prices

Item Price (Raid Coins) Use
Crystal Shard 1,250 Summoning currency
4 Leaf Clover 750 Hero luck enhancement
4 Clover Grimoire 600,000,000 Advanced luck enhancement

For most players, the priority is buying Crystal Shards with spare Raid Coins. The 4 Clover Grimoire at 600M coins is a very long-term goal — focus on steady Crystal Shard purchases first.

Raid Team Recommendations

Core Raid Team Structure

Boss Killer

Bald Hero avatarBald Hero — The premier boss-damage specialist. His kit is designed for single-target burst against raid bosses. If you have him, he is your first pick for every raid.

Control

Bring at least one hero with crowd control abilities — stuns, slows, or knockbacks. Control units buy your team time during dangerous boss phases and keep adds under control.

DPS

Fill remaining slots with your highest-tier damage dealers. Prioritize single-target DPS heroes over AoE specialists — raid bosses are single targets with massive HP pools. Check our Tier List for current top DPS picks.

Alternative Without Bald Hero

If you do not have Bald Hero, stack your best single-target DPS heroes and focus on surviving boss AoE phases with perfect crouch timing. The fight will take longer, but it is still clearable with strong enough alternatives. Refer to our team building guide for composition advice.

Double Dungeon — Hardest Endgame Content

Double Dungeon is designed as the ultimate endgame challenge. Do not attempt it without a fully upgraded team.

Double Dungeon takes the raid concept and adds a brutal twist: stone statues that automatically walk toward your heroes. If a statue reaches and touches a hero, that hero is instantly deleted from the fight — no revival, no second chance. The hero is simply gone for the rest of the battle.

This creates a constant tension between dealing damage to the boss and managing statue positions. You need to use knockback abilities, careful hero placement, and crowd control to keep the statues at bay while maintaining enough DPS to defeat the boss before your team gets whittled down.

Successful Double Dungeon clears require both a powerful team and strong mechanical play. The crouch mechanic is still present (the boss still uses AoE attacks), and now you also need to monitor statue positions constantly. It is the most demanding content in Anime Overload.

Double Dungeon Survival Tips

  • 1. Place heroes near the back of the arena so statues have further to walk before reaching them.
  • 2. Bring at least two heroes with knockback abilities to push statues away repeatedly.
  • 3. Focus fire the boss — the faster you clear, the fewer statues you need to manage.
  • 4. If a hero is about to be reached by a statue, reposition them immediately rather than losing them.

5 Pro Tips for Raids

1

Practice Crouch Timing First

Before tackling hard raids, spend a few runs on easy ones just to nail the crouch timing. The visual cue and timing window are consistent — muscle memory is your best friend here.

2

Upgrade Bald Hero First

If you have Bald Hero, he should be your priority upgrade target. His boss damage scales extremely well and he remains relevant in every raid tier.

3

Buy Crystal Shards from Raid Shop Early

Do not hoard Raid Coins for the 600M Grimoire early on. Spend coins on Crystal Shards (1,250 each) to fund summons for better heroes — a stronger roster helps you earn coins faster.

4

Watch Boss Attack Patterns

Every boss has a pattern. After a few attempts, you will recognize the sequence of normal attacks, AoE charges, and special abilities. Predictability makes crouching much easier.

5

Do Not Ignore Control Units

It is tempting to stack pure DPS, but control units that stun or slow the boss create safe windows for your damage dealers. A balanced team clears faster than a glass-cannon team that gets wiped by one missed crouch.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the crouch mechanic work in raids?

When a raid boss charges an AoE (area-of-effect) attack, a warning indicator appears on screen. You need to press the crouch key to duck under the attack. If you fail to crouch in time, your character gets stunned or put to sleep, and your heroes stop receiving commands temporarily. This is unique to Anime Overload — it is not a typical idle tower defense mechanic.

What can I buy from the Raid Shop?

The Raid Shop sells Crystal Shards (1,250 Raid Coins each), 4 Clover Grimoire (600,000,000 Raid Coins), and 4 Leaf Clover (750 Raid Coins). Crystal Shards are the most commonly purchased item for summoning, while the Clover items are used for hero luck enhancement.

What is the best team for raid bosses?

A strong raid team typically includes Bald Hero (who specializes in boss damage), at least one control unit for crowd control, and your strongest DPS heroes. Prioritize heroes with single-target burst damage over AoE specialists, since raids focus on one boss target.

What is Double Dungeon and how is it different from normal raids?

Double Dungeon is the hardest endgame raid content. Unlike normal raids, it features stone statues that automatically walk toward your heroes. If a statue touches a hero, that hero is instantly deleted from the fight. You need to position heroes carefully and use knockback or control abilities to keep the statues away while dealing damage to the boss.

How many Raid Coins do I need to buy everything in the shop?

For the major items: Crystal Shards cost 1,250 Raid Coins each, 4 Leaf Clover costs 750 Raid Coins, and the 4 Clover Grimoire costs 600,000,000 Raid Coins. The Grimoire is the long-term goal — most players focus on Crystal Shards and 4 Leaf Clovers first while slowly accumulating coins for the Grimoire.
